Immerse yourself in the culture of Belize, while taking part in service projects in the villages of the Corozal District.

*Loyola University Chicago has suspended all study abroad and international programs through Spring 2021 due to COVID-19.

Each year, the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing offers a two-week program in Belize for undergraduate and graduate students to experience a different model of health care delivery. More than 70 BSN, MSN, and PhD students and faculty have shared in this international nursing experience.

The program begins with an educational component prior to the clinical component which is a two-week field experience in the Corozal District of Belize. Educational experiences include in-services and workshops for health care personnel as well as health education classes conducted for adults, parents, and children in the villages and schools of the district.

Students assist with care and service projects in village schools, clinics, and the district hospital. Service activities include vision testing and screening for the presence of lice, hypertension, diabetes, and cancer.

Many students have gone on to further their education as nurse practitioners and midwives as a result of this experience while others value the people they met, cared for, and learned from.
