On weekends and during academic breaks, Ramble Outdoors offers opportunities for students to get off campus and engage with the outdoors. No previous experience is necessary for participants to participate in the Outdoor Experiences. Experiences typically include:
Day Hikes: Typically located within two hours of Lakeshore Campus. The group will gather in the morning, travel to the day hike location, hike for a few hours, and return to campus in the evening.
Campouts: Weekend campouts typically located within three hours of Lakeshore Campus (campouts offered on academic breaks may travel further distances and stay for multiple nights). The group will travel to the campout location, setup the campsite, cook on camping stoves, and explore the trails located near the campsite.
Paddles: Sea kayaking programs depart from and return to Leone Beach located a mile north of Lakeshore Campus. The group will paddle south to view Lakeshore Campus and the city from a different perspective and then paddle back to Leone Beach.
Wilderness Wednesdays: Wilderness Wednesdays are a free hour-long clinic on Wednesdays from 4 - 5 p.m. to learn new skills from trained facilitators!
Rock Wall Special Events: Join us at the rock wall for special events ranging from trivia night to clinics to learn more climbing skills!
Led by Ramble Outdoors student facilitators, all of the outdoor experiences are designed for participants to get to know each other, experience the outdoors, and provide opportunities for reflection. Ramble Outdoors teaches and follows Leave No Trace principles.
Participants can register for experiences at the Halas Recreation Center front desk or at campusrec.luc.edu.
Outdoor Experiences are also available as customized group programs. If you are interested in planning a custom outdoor experience, complete the Ramble Outdoors request form.
