Campfire and S'mores with Ramble Outdoors
Friday Nights | 8 - 10 p.m. | West Quad
Come join us for our weekly campfire on the west quad! Take some time to unwind, bond with others, make s’mores, and learn about upcoming opportunities. You’re welcome to bring musical instruments, games, and other campfire activities. We will supply you with the necessary s'more makings that accompany campfires. No registration is needed, stop by Friday nights from 8 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Campout on the Quad

 Campout on the Quad 2014 Have you ever wanted to sleep outside on the quad? Come join Ramble Outdoors for our fall celebration on the west quad. Sleep under the stars, laugh with friends, relax by the campfire, and learn about yourself through reflection and community. Camping equipment, dessert, and breakfast will all be provided.

Come try something new and see Loyola from a different perspective. Setting out on our local, beautiful waterway is a peaceful way to unwind for the evening, giving you time to pause, breathe, and reflect. No experience is necessary on this guided paddle. We will teach you some basics then get you out on the water. Though we don’t plan on going for swims, bring layers that will keep you warm if you get wet. We will meet at Leone Beach Park at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday Kayak Adventures on Lake Michigan

Come kayak Lake Michigan with us and experience your own neighborhood from a fresh perspective.  Setting out on our local, beautiful waterway is a perfect way to take a break from weekend work.  Our guided paddles are informal and fun and no experience is necessary! Basic paddling instruction will be provided and then the group will head out for a relaxing lakeside view of Rogers Park. Though we don’t plan on going for swims, bring layers that will keep you warm if you get wet. We will meet at Leone Beach Park. If the weather does not cooperate, we will reschedule for next Saturday at the same time (9/19).

Kayak Roll Session

  Do you want to escape the cold for an evening? Come play with us in the Halas pool with sea kayaks! No previous experience is necessary. Work on your kayaking skills, even as the bitter winter takes hold of Chicago! There will be opportunities for skill building at all levels.  Instruction includes general kayaking, turning and forward strokes, balance work, personal practice time, and a roll clinic.

Want to get away from the winter weather and sea kayak in southern Florida?
Join Ramble Outdoors for a week-long kayaking trip to the 10,000 Islands. We will explore the mangroves, small bays, and the Gulf of Mexico by day, and campout on white sandy beaches each night. Our itinerary is geared for first-time paddlers, but varied paddling conditions will provide a challenge for all. Reflection, lessons on the local ecology, yoga, cooking amazing meals and of course enjoying this amazing natural area are all on the agenda. This is a terrific opportunity to escape the cold, build new friendships, learn outdoor skills, relax, and be challenged in a beautiful environment.  If you are interested in going on this experience, take a look at the important documents below.

Fall Break Backpacking

Are you looking for something different and exciting to do over Fall Break? Join Ramble Outdoors on an exhilarating adventure to Kettle Moraine State Forest, to explore the outdoors in all of its fall beauty! This is a time to build new relationships, reflect, and take a break from the city. No prior backpacking or camping experience necessary. We will work through the challenges and pleasures of backpacking in the outdoors; from carrying everything on our backs, to moving camp most nights, to learning new outdoor skills. Fall Break Rock Climbing

Need a new adventure for Fall Break? Join Ramble Outdoors on a climbing excursion to Devils Lake, Wisconsin! On this trip you will have a variety of opportunities such as outdoor rock climbing, hiking, and camping. We will spend time learning the ropes of outdoor rock climbing  at the premier “local” climbing destination. While not climbing, the fall colors and ample hiking trails will give your eyes rest from time in the city. Self-Propelled Bike Trip

Come join us for a unique adventure as we ride bikes, camp near the lake, and relax in the outdoors. Using only bikes (provided by ChainLinks) and our legs, we will be riding a total of 80 miles up and down the coast of Lake Michigan, leaving Saturday morning and returning Sunday afternoon. DonÕt worry if you donÕt have a lot of time or experience riding, we will go at a moderate pace and provide instruction as we go. Mountain Biking

Join us on a mountain biking day trip excursion. We will transition from biking in deep woods to open prairies getting a fast paced change of ecosystems. There will be time for lunch, reflecting, and bonding with new friends. This experience is open to all levels of bicycling experience, with challenges for beginners and returnees. Poplar Creek Orienteering Event

Have you always wondered how a map and compass work? Or maybe you know how and want to work on those skills. Orienteering is an experience for all levels that will leave you feeling like an outdoor explorer. Learn map and compass skills while traversing through the beautiful Poplar Creek Forest Preserve. If you're not interested in map and compass work, bring a friend who is or just come along for the hike!

Day Hikes

Take a break from your studies and experience the outdoors on our day hike to Starved Rock! You will be able to hike with your friends while exploring the park's famous canyons. Besides beautiful rock formations, you will also have the chance to see waterfalls and wildflowers. The group will share a picnic lunch and then head back to campus in the late afternoon.
