Start the Fire
Monday, August 19th-Thursday, August 22nd
The Ramble Outdoors Start the Fire program is designed for incoming first year students. We’ll use the week before classes start to explore state parks – get a taste for the beauty of the state that is home to Loyola.
The group will travel “coast-to-coast”: starting on the shores of Lake Michigan on Loyola’s Lakeshore Campus, ending on the Mississippi River at Mississippi Palisades State Park, making stops along the way to hike at Starved Rock State Park, paddle (canoe, kayak, stand-up paddleboard) at Rock Cut State Park, and campout under the stars along the way.
Most importantly, through the fun activities described above, the Start the Fire program is an opportunity for incoming first year students to connect with each other and the outdoors in meaningful ways, reflect on their transition from high school to college, and meet new friends prior to Welcome Week.
No experience is necessary – we’ll teach you all the skills you need to know. Personal gear (sleeping bags, rain layers, water bottles, headlamps, etc…) is available at no cost through the Ramble Outdoors equipment rental program for Start the Fire participants.
Participants will be able to move-in early to their residence halls on Monday, August 19th, then we’ll hit the road for the week!
Financial assistance is available – email Megan Morris at email@example.com for more information.
Participants must be 18 years of age by August 19th to participate.
Registration fee is $100 (includes transportation, all meals, group equipment, campsite reservations, and a Ramble Outdoors t-shirt).
