International Education Week 2024

The Office of Global and Community Engagement will kick off International Education Week with Global Fest, a celebration of Loyola’s international engagement, on November 18th. Attendees can enjoy a variety of foods from local restaurants which highlight the cultural diversity of the Rogers Park and Edgewater neighborhoods. There will also be international music, entertainment, and prizes. 

Following Global Fest, International Education Week continues with a variety of globally-focused events, including career workshops, study abroad programming, cultural celebrations, a film screening, and networking opportunities. 

There is something for everyone throughout the week – Loyola students, staff, and faculty!  Scroll through our events to find the global engagement event that interests you.

Leverage Your International Experiences to Get the Job 

Marlee Stein, Director of Study Abroad, and Amy Soub, Director of International Student and Scholar Services, together with Taylor Kinn, Director of Career Communities, will share their collective experience in this space to support students in articulating their international experiences into their resume, cover letter, LinkedIn, and interviews. This event is intended to support all students in a three-part workshop/presentation-style event. Come for one module or all as we build upon the information in each sectionA light lunch will be provided for all attendees.

Rome Center Alumni Panel 

If you are interested in studying in Rome, this event is for you! Hear directly from recent Rome Center alumni on a panel discussion. Gain abroad tips and advice for Loyola’s most popular study abroad destination. Plus, hear from a Gilman International Scholarship recipient about her experiences applying for this national award and her participation in the Ricci Scholars Program, offering undergraduate students the chance to conduct research in Rome and an East-Asia destination.

International Film Night: Peace by Chocolate

Join International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) in viewing the award-winning international film, Peace by Chocolate (2021), which is co-written, produced, and directed by Jonathan Keijser. When a Syrian family flees civil war to small-town Canada, the son is torn between his dreams of becoming a doctor and helping his father rebuild his suddenly burgeoning chocolate business.

Faculty-led programs during the summer term offer a great way to earn credit toward your degree plan while studying abroad. Come by Schreiber Center to talk with faculty leaders and study abroad advisors about these programs. Complete your degree abroad with Loyola faculty and students!

Emily Mattson, a Career Advisor within Career Services, will explore the concept of "culture shock" and discuss the variances in professionalism you may encounter when working outside the U.S. She’ll also provide an overview of essential resources and tools for international job searching. Andy Weber, from the Fellowship Office, will share valuable information about nationally competitive opportunities such as the Gilman Scholarship, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, and the Boren Scholarship. Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your international career prospects!

We’re creating a Spotify playlist that brings together the favorite songs of students that remind them of an international experience - a program abroad, a vacation, or a place they dream of visiting. Share the music that takes you around the world! By submitting a song, you’ll automatically be entered into our giveaway for a chance to win a gift voucher to the Loyola University Bookstore. The winner will be announced at Global Fest in the  Sister Jean Room, North  (Damen Center) on November 18 from 3:00-5:00 pm.

  3. Sustainability: Highlight how communities protect and care for the Earth. 
  4. Friendships: Celebrate friendships and connections across cultures. 
  5. Abroad Stories: Share moments from your study abroad adventures. 

Bonus Category: People’s Choice 

Category winners will be announced at Global Fest in the Sister Jean Room, North (Damen Center) on November 18 from 3:00-5:00 pm. Each of the five winning photos will automatically be entered into the People’s Choice category, where students will vote for their favorite during Global Fest! 

Prizes:

  • Category Winners: $50 gift card + framed canvas
