Loyola University Chicago

Program Information

If you are attending the freshmen mid-year orientation on January 11, 2019, please refer to the Transfer Orientation page for more accurate program information and sample schedules.

Program Hours

All first-year students are required to attend the entire two-day, overnight program. Parents and guests, please refer to our Parents' site for your own optional two-day program.

Day 1: 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. (ends at 5:30 p.m. for parents, all students stay overnight on-campus)
Day 2: 7 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Suggested Packing List

Each student's overnight room will come with a pillow, sheets, and a towel, but you're welcome to bring along a blanket or toiletries. Heavier blankets will be available at Orientation Check-In in the lobby of the Residence Hall. At check-in, students will receive a small bag to carry around any orientation materials that they'll receive. We recommend packing comfortable clothing (many people prefer to bring along a sweatshirt since the buildings get cool in the summer!), comfortable shoes, a water bottle, and a small snack. You can also bring along any immunization paperwork to give to the Wellness Center at the Resource Fair on Day 2 of your orientation.

Check-In Time & Location

Check-in runs from 8:30–10:30 a.m. in the Institute of Environmental Sustainability, Rooms 123/124. Students will receive their personalized schedules and the key to their overnight room, as well as parking validation, at this time. Once students are checked in, they can go place their suitcases in their overnight room and meet their Orientation roommate!

How do I get there?

The city of Chicago has a wide variety of transportation options at your disposal that will get you to our campus quickly and safely.

If a student is attending Orientation with a parent or guest, students can be dropped off directly in front of San Francisco Hall to begin check-in. Parents/guests can then proceed directly to the parking garage to park and meet their student at check-in. Please click here for a map detailing drop-off information. Free parking is available in the parking garage. Please print this placard and display this in your vehicle to provide overnight parking for Orientation.

If a student is driving alone, please park in the parking garage and then proceed to IES 123/124 for check-in. Please bring your overnight bag with you as you will be checking in to your room at this time.

If a parent or guest will just be dropping off a student, complimentary parking is available in the parking structure for 30 minutes.

Generally speaking, give yourself approximately 2 hours of travel time to or from the University campus from O'Hare or Midway.

Freshman Orientation: Check-in begins at 8:30AM and ends at 10:30AM (Day 1). Freshman Orientation ends at around 2:00PM (Day 2).

Loyola is also easily accessible via public transportation (CTA) at the Loyola stop on the Red Line. For check-in, we recommend students get off at the Granville stop and walk north on Kenmore directly to the Institute for Environmental Sustainability.

Cab or Rideshare Dropoff

If you are coming to check-in via a cab or a rideshare, we recommend the following address: 6301 N Kenmore Avenue. This address will drop you off at the corner of Rosemont and Kenmore. You will then proceed north to the Institute for Environmental Sustainability for check-in.

Orientation Fee

The First Year Program Fee is $350 per student. The fee includes all materials, food, two guest passes for the two-day program, and overnight accommodations for the student. Additionally, this fee funds various other programs throughout the student's first year at Loyola, including Convocation. The First Year Program Fee is applied directly to the student's tuition account once the student has attended orientation, and it will be automatically included in your first bill.
