Vice Provost for Research

Good afternoon colleagues:

 

On behalf of the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, we would like to announce that two new internal research funding opportunities have been made available. 

 

The complete details and guidelines are attached above however, a snapshot of both opportunities are listed here for your review:

 

  • J.E.D.I (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion)-Focused Research Award  – provides support for pilot or preliminary investigations aimed at understanding and/or addressing one or more of the various societal inequalities where specific groups of individuals (e.g., across racial/ethnic, gender, socioeconomic lines) are impacted disproportionately.
    • Budget - Total budget request cannot exceed $40,000. The budget is generally limited to supplies only, but study-associated personnel, lab technicians or post-doctoral fellows may be supported with adequate justification.
      • In cases where the applicant is a Research Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, and is supported fully by (their mentor’s) extramural funding at the time of award, a maximum of 10% salary support for the PI will be allowed to address time-and-effort compliance regulations.
  • Transformative Research Award– provides support for innovative, trans-disciplinary research projects where investigators from different disciplines/Schools work jointly to create new conceptual and translational approaches to complex (societal) problems, that could transform fundamental understanding of systems in a given field.
    • Budget – Total budget request cannot exceed $75,000. The budget is generally limited to supplies only, but technicians or post-doctoral fellows may be supported with adequate justification
  • Eligibility
    • Only full-time (tenured, tenure-track, or non-tenure track), Loyola University Chicago faculty may apply as a principal investigator (PI).
    • Veteran’s Administration (VA)-based, Loyola-appointed faculty are eligible to serve as collaborators, but not as PIs.
    • A faculty member with an existing/ongoing intramural grant (RFC, IPRS) is NOT eligible to apply.
  • Key Dates
    • Application Deadline: 12-10-21
    • Anticipated award date: 01-24-22
  • Submission Format
    • Please see attached guidelines for complete submission format.
    • Proposals should be submitted via Pilot/Seed Grant Program Portal no later than the deadline noted above. 
      • Your Loyola Single Sign-on (SSO) is required to access the system.
