Program Areas

Jean Hellman Ryan was the Director of the Institute for Paralegal Studies from its founding in 1991 to her retirement in 2017. She currently teaches Advanced Topics in American Law and Advanced Legal Analysis and Writing.

Professional & Community Affiliations

Jean’s particular interest has been promoting the quality of paralegal education in response to the needs of the legal community. She pursued this objective at Loyola and through her work with the American Bar Association’s approval process for paralegal education programs. Jean served on the ABA’s Standing Committee for Paralegals and its Approval Commission, helping to evaluate paralegal programs throughout the country, and was an Educational Consultant to the Committee for several years. Her expertise was recognized by the American Association for Paralegal Education, which awarded her a lifetime honorary membership in 2018.
