Parkinson Anti-Bias Training Sessions
Message originally sent 10/01/2020
Dear Parkinson Family,
In an effort to promote a culture of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I), I am requesting that all faculty (full- and part-time) and staff participate in anti-bias training around hiring. This will provide us common vocabulary and principles at a critical time of significant hiring growth for the School.
The training will be led by Dr. Christopher Manning, Associate Professor and Assistant Provost on Academic Diversity. There is an asynchronous ‘pre-work’ and 90-minute ‘in-person’ synchronous component.
Four synchronous training sessions have been set (below). You will receive a calendar invitation for each session. Please respond to the invitation that works for you. More information will be forthcoming from Dr. Manning.
- Monday, Nov 2: 10:00-11:30 am
- Tuesday, Nov 3: 2:00-3:00 pm
- Wednesday, Nov 4: 1:00-2:30 pm
- Thursday, Nov 5: 10:00-11:30 am
I recognize that even with these four options there may be conflicts. If you have a conflict, please notify Roberta Dvells (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we can set up an additional training time if necessary.
This anti-bias training is a concrete action on our part for responding to institutionalized racism and for promoting a culture of diversity and inclusivity.
I recognize that this training is just a first step. Our school’s leadership team and I, in consultation with Chris, are developing a DE&I learning and engagement action plan for the Parkinson School. More to follow. We want it to build upon efforts already underway within many of our programs. We welcome your ideas and where you see the most urgent needs.
