Welcome to the new Healthcare Administration chair
Matt Anderson, PhD, became the chair of the Department of Healthcare Administration (HCA) and associate professor in the Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health, effective December 1, 2022.
“Matt is a seasoned academic leader with a deep understanding of the Chicago healthcare ecosystem and the future of healthcare administration education,” says Elaine Morrato, DrPH MPH, founding dean of the Parkinson School. “He will help the school continue to deepen our transformative student experience and support its Jesuit commitment to health equity.”
About Associate Professor Anderson
Anderson joined Loyola University Chicago with 13 years of leadership in health science instruction and administration.
“I am excited to work with our HCA faculty to pursue excellence in teaching, research, and service in support of the Parkinson mission,” says Anderson. “I believe the Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health is ideally positioned to lead at the intersection of both healthcare delivery and population health. With exciting initiatives such as the Center for Health Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CHIE), Parkinson is committed to improving population health and healthcare systems.”
Most recently, Anderson served the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio as associate dean for administrative affairs and assistant professor in the School of Health Professions. Prior to that, he served in leadership positions at Rush University’s College of Health Sciences. Anderson has published peer-reviewed research in the areas of teaching excellence, leadership, and healthcare finance.
Anderson’s service to the health community includes being a reviewer for the Journal of Health Administration Education and the Patient Experience Journal. He also serves as an advisory board member for the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) Best Organizations for Leadership Development (BOLD) program.
He received BA degrees in biology and sociology from Illinois Wesleyan University and his MS in Health Systems Management and PhD in Health Sciences from Rush University.
Anderson succeeded MaryMargaret Sharp-Pucci, EdD, MPH, who retired in December 2022.
