Applied Health Sciences

Benny Garcia
  • What prompted you to pursue your field?

Exercise science is needed more than ever in this world. Why? One word: prevention! Exercise physiologists should be focused on informing/guiding others (clients and patients) about health and well-being so they can avoid injury and sickness. They should be focused on helping with preventable visits to the physical therapist and doctors.

What would you tell a student about why your field is exciting/important/the potential impact s/he could make?

I see the role of the exercise physiologist as one of foresight, not hindsight. Guiding, leading, and teaching others the methods to stay healthy and happy.

What "called" you to/attracted you to Loyola?

As a graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep here in Chicago, I believe in the principle of being a man or woman for others. Loyola University also holds onto that value and it's an honor to work at an institution that holds firm to those beliefs.
