Transformation of Cudahy Science Hall

Transformation of Cudahy Science Hall

Cudahy Science Hall houses the LUC Department of Physics and is undergoing extensive renovations. The architecture and design firm responsible for the renovations, SmithGroup, has received numerous accolades for their work with academic buildings and labs. The building is slated to reopen for the Fall 2020 semester. The building will remain a hub for physics-related activities on campus. The reimagining of the building will include

  • Modernized teaching labs and classrooms, including a studio-style classroom
  • Remodeled advanced teaching labs in optics, modern physics, and student project
  • New lab spaces for biophysics, computational, and quantum optics research
  • Workspaces for theoretical research
  • Computer lab with fabrication lab for 3D printing
  • Lounge for physics students and meeting room for Physics Club

In addition, the modifications to the building will increase natural lighting, improve accessibility, and provide meeting rooms on every floor for students. The Physics Department is looking forward to its return to Cudahy Science Hall.
