Newsletter #1 - August 31, 2022

Welcome to the start of the fall semester! I hope everyone is having a good first week. This newsletter has lots of information about upcoming events in the Department and at Loyola as well as information about physics advising, research opportunity, and the 3/2 Physics + Engineering Program.

Physics advisors for students

Faculty advisors for students have been assigned for the fall semester. Please watch for an email later this week with your assigned Physics advisor. Please feel free to reach out to your advisor for questions about your degree program, course work, or other questions in physics. You will have a required meeting with this advisor during the pre-registration period for review and approval of your physics course for the Spring 23 semester.

Information about the Physics + Engineering (3 + 2) program at Washington University St. Louis

For students interested in the Physics + Engineering (3 + 2) program, one of our partner schools – Washington University St. Louis McKelvey School of Engineering – sent an informational flyer and brochure about the general requirements and offering that is attached. Please look through this to learn about the program. A representative from WUSL should be visiting campus in late fall. More information will be provided once the dates are known.

Ultrasonic Biophysics Research Opportunity

Dr. Muna Aryal in the Engineering Department and Loyola Stritch School of Medicine is seeking students to work in her ultrasonic biophysics lab. Interested students should have coding experience. Her research lab is at the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center at Maywood. Her research centers on developing drug delivery tools using focused ultrasound and nanobiotechnology and tailoring their use for noninvasive and targeted brain imaging and therapy. You can read more about her research on her website https://www.luc.edu/engineering/aboutus/faculty/munaaryal.shtml , and she can be contacted via email at maryal@luc.edu.
