Fr. Salmi Named 38th President of Spring Hill College
September 26, 2008
I am pleased to share with you the good news that Richard P. Salmi, S.J., vice president of student affairs, has been selected as the 38th President of Spring Hill College, the third oldest Jesuit college in the United States. Located in Mobile, Alabama, with a total enrollment of about 1,500 students, the College is ranked 13th among the southern colleges and universities granting masterÂ’s degrees.
For the past six years at Loyola, Fr. Salmi has provided excellent leadership for our student body and oversaw the improvement and enhancement of every department within the division, including the major expansion of the departments of Residence Life, Student Diversity, Wellness, and Intercollegiate Athletics. He has built a strong leadership team within the division, managed more than 100 employees, and served on the presidentÂ’s cabinet and the strategic planning committee.
I am personally grateful to Fr. Salmi for his commitment to Loyola and its students. His energy, good humor, and wise counsel will be missed. He will be a wonderful president for Spring Hill.
Please join me in congratulating Fr. Salmi, who will begin his new position on June 1 of next year.
Michael J. Garanzini, S.J.
President, Loyola University Chicago
