Dr. Francis L. Fennell Appointed Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences
March 23, 2009
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Francis L. Fennell as the next Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. After meeting with members of the Dean Search Committee and carefully reviewing the evaluative comments submitted by each of you, Dr. Fennell emerged as your clear choice from a slate of talented candidates.
Dr. Fennell’s appointment continues years of dedicated service to Loyola University Chicago. He has been a member of the Loyola faculty since 1968 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 1976 and to Professor in 1983. From 1996-2001, he served the college as its Associate Dean, and from 2001-2008, he served as Chair of the Department of English. Dr. Fennell has also served the college as Director of Writing across the curriculum and as Assistant Dean for the Humanities. He also served the University as a member of Faculty Council and the University-wide Committee on Academic Review and Planning.
We are delighted to confirm your judgment that Dr. Fennell should continue his service to the college and the University in this important capacity. We ask that you join us in offering him your congratulations and your support as he continues advancing the College of Arts and Sciences into the future.
In closing, thanks to the CAS Dean Search Committee, chaired by Dr. David Prasse, for managing this process and putting forth impressive candidates for our consideration.
