President's Tuition Update - Parents/Guardian

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We wanted to give you as much advance notice as possible regarding tuition and other fees for the 2009-2010 academic year. To continue to expand and enhance academic programs, recruit the best faculty to teach and conduct research, and improve your student's campus living and study spaces, the University's Board of Trustees has approved an increase of 4.0 percent, effective fall 2009, in undergraduate tuition costs for the 2009-2010 academic year. 

Other costs to note are room rates, which will increase by an average of 3.0 percent, and meal plans, which will increase by an average of 5.5 percent. Full-time student activity fees also will increase by 3.9 percent.

The increases are necessary to meet our expenses and obligations and to support additional financial aid for students, particularly important in this time of economic hardship and uncertainty. 

Please know that we are doing everything we can to reduce expenses. Some examples are:

  • Improving operations
  • Requiring departments to redeploy budget dollars in lieu of increasing budgets 
  • Working with vendors to improve service and reduce costs
  • Reducing energy consumption in our new environmentally friendly buildings (e.g. Klarchek Information Commons and Baumhart Hall)
