Brian Schmisek Appointed Provost at St. Mary's University of Minnesota
June 6, 2019
Dear Members of the Loyola Community,
I am writing to announce that the dean of the Institute of Pastoral Studies (IPS), Brian Schmisek, PhD, has accepted a position at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota effective July 8. He will become provost and dean of faculties, serving as chief academic officer and overseeing academic budget planning, development of academic policies and procedures, and supervision of all academic and research programs.
I am so appreciative of Brian’s seven years of service within IPS. Under his leadership, the institute gained national recognition as a member of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). He also prioritized student services as reflected in increased retention and degree completion rates and the creation of a Student Engagement Committee. During his tenure, the institute extended its reach as it began offering summer courses at Loyola's John Felice Rome Center Campus and expanded its degree and certificate offerings as well as its continuing education programs.
After conferring with faculty within IPS, I will announce a new leader for the institute prior to Brian’s departure. This will ensure a smooth transition as we continue to educate and form future leaders in ministry.
