Proactive Recruitmentand Next Steps

Dear Members of the Loyola Community,

The Presidential Search Committee and Isaacson, Miller, our search consultant, have made significant progress in the recruitment of the University’s next president. In my last note in December, I shared that the leadership profile had been finalized. Since then, we have received positive feedback about the breadth, depth, and quality of the profile, which is now being used to assess nominations and applications, as well as our candor about Loyola’s strengths and challenges.

Over the last two months, in addition to continuing to collect nominations, we have been proactively recruiting potential candidates and calibrating the qualifications of interested individuals with our requirements and preferences. The high level of interest we have received to date speaks to the overall attractiveness of the opportunity to serve as Loyola University Chicago’s next president.

Proactive efforts include the following:

  • Advertisements: The position was publicized across a variety of national publications in January, including The Chronicle of Higher Education, Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, and Women in Higher Education. You can view the advertisement here.
  • Key Partners: We have shared the position with two of our key associations—the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities and the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU)—and they have shared the position online.
  • Personal Outreach: In an effort to generate additional nominations and connect with our national network of Jesuit higher education, I sent personalized letters and our leadership profile to each AJCU school president. We are also seeking the assistance of AJCU rectors and US provincials to identify capable Jesuits who may fit our profile.
