Alexandre Cordahi

Alexandre Cordahi has 25 years of experience in international development law and legal reforms. Since 1998, he has been engaged as a team leader and senior expert in EU funded projects/programmes dealing with the rule of law and economy.

From 1984 to 1989, he worked as a legal counsel in syndicated loans, project financing, and sovereign debt renegotiations. From 1989 to 1998, he served as a senior legal counsel and head of the francophone department at the International Development Law Organisation (IDLO). He designed the Enterprise and Investment Lawyers Course (EILC) and the first judiciary modules. Since 1998, he has worked with a wide range of stakeholders involved in promoting the rule of law in countries associated to the EU.

He has assisted in the enhancement of the law-making process and capacities of ministries and courts in about 30 countries (mainly in Africa, Western Balkans, Moldova, and the Middle East). He was a member of the team that prepared the EC reference document on "EU Support for justice reform in ACP countries" (September 2010) bringing together representatives of the Commission, development agencies, and NGOs operating in the justice sector (Brussels, June & October 2008).

Mr. Cordahi graduated from the Paris Institute of Political Studies (1976) and holds a post-graduate diploma in international private law and international commercial law from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (1980) in which he became a lecturer (1980-1988 in common law systems). Mr. Cordahi is a French and Lebanese citizen (born in Cairo 1954) and a member of the Paris Bar. Fluent in French and English, Alexandre has knowledge of Greek (mother's nationality), Arabic, Italian and rudimentary German.
