Research Interests

My research addresses basic theoretical questions within the area of social psychology; as well as interdisciplinary issues within the areas of political psychology, cross-cultural psychology, and the the psychology of communication. In exploring these issues, I adopt an information processing approach that incorporates the role of affect and nonverbal cues. My work can be divided into five programs of research. These concern (1) dogmatism and open-minded cognition, (2) cognitive processing style and political judgment, (2) the role of episodic affect and nonverbal cues as a determinant of political attitudes, (3) the distinction between corrected and uncorrected social judgments, (4) research concerning stereotyping and perceived group variability, and (5) cross-cultural research on subjective culture.
