Degree: MS in Human Resources, '15
Occupation: Associate Compensation Consultant, Aon Hewitt
Why this program?
When I graduated from Marquette University in 2013 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration, I decided that I wanted to work in human resources, specifically, compensation. I felt the best route to accomplish my goal was to attain an advanced degree in human resources.
I looked at other notable business schools with human resources programs in the Chicago area, but I felt that the curriculum was too focused on core business classes, which is fine for an MBA program, but not a specialty HR program. I decided to attend Quinlan’s human resources program due to the industry relevant curriculum, structure of the program, and networking opportunities with guest speakers, fellow students, and visits to human resources firms throughout the city.
I can honestly say that I loved everything about my experience at Quinlan, but what stands out to me was being able to see accomplished human resources professionals speak at Quinlan.
These experiences kept me informed of current happenings within human resources, beyond the classroom, and also provided me with great networking opportunities to secure employment upon graduation.
As a student and young professional, it was great to see how the program collaborated with real-world professionals and to hear the advice from the faculty, students, and established human resources professionals.
Advice to students in the program?
To be actively involved with the program, form strong relationships with your professors, and take advantage of all the opportunities to see dynamic guest speakers.
Also, take the time to learn from your classmates, who bring diversified experiences to the classroom.
For students with less experience, I suggest finding an internship or shadowing at a company to gain experience in human resources and add to a resume.
Why Quinlan (In 10 words or less)?
The faculty at Quinlan are extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and honest.
