Why this program?

I always had a strong desire to work in the fashion industry, beyond retail, and I knew that in order to get where I wanted to be that I would need to have a stronger set of skills.

Quinlan’s graduate programs allow students to develop both essential problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to make smart marketing and overall business decisions based on available data. They also allow student to be exposed to different areas of business within an organization—with this knowledge, students not only add value to themselves, but the companies they work for.

Overall, Quinlan prepares students to wear multiple hats within an organization and be great while doing so.

Favorite experience?

Two experiences really stand out to me from my time at Quinlan. The first was being able to learn from Professor Eve Geroulis, who constantly challenged me to think bigger and do bigger as a marketer.

She exposed me to different theories and ways of looking at a problem and then challenged me to turn that problem into an opportunity for your organization through critical thinking.

The other memorable experience I had was setting up Quinlan’s first LGBT graduate student organization. It was very important for me to have a safe space for graduate students to discuss LGBT issues at Quinlan.

Advice to students in the program?

To take risks and push yourself out of your comfort zone. This is key for those who wish to work in fashion, as New York is a top city for it. As a professional, you have to know how to embrace change and conquer it head first.

Also, take the time to really understand the needs of your team by speaking with them and making sure that everyone is on one accord before starting a project. This will hopefully eliminate unnecessary mistakes on your part.

And finally, learn how to take constructive criticism and turn it into something positive.
