Loyola University Chicago

Rambler Success Program

2021 Peer Mentors

Monika Kulasik

I come from a first generation of Polish immigrants. Both my parents came to the United States about 20 years ago so I was born and raised in Chicago before moving to the suburbs. I did go to Polish school every Saturday morning for 11 years straight, I finished off with getting a diploma from my Polish school stating that I can read, write, and speak the language fluently. I am very proud of where I come from and tend not to hide it. I do have an older sister that attends Colorado State University online and works full time. My parents own their own business and have been for 14 years. It is a 24 hr operating motel which means it requires their full attention. Their business is about 40 plus minutes away from where I live because they are self-employed and don't have any other workers but themselves this left me at the age of 5 and my sister at the age of 10 to be raised by my grandma, which I am ever so thankful for. She means the absolute world to me, we also traveled a lot together oftentimes to Poland. Because I travel a lot you can image that I'm a bit of a travelholic and want to continue to travel anywhere and everywhere. In the future, I plan on becoming a neuropsychologist to help treat dementia and help people recover from traumatic accidents.
