Move Out Spring 2020 Closure

Given the severity of the COVID-19 spread, the University will be moving all classes online for the remainder of the semester. Residential students are asked to move out of their residence halls as soon as possible, but no later than 5:00 PM on Thursday, March 19. Please start making arrangements as soon as possible with your family and friends to move all of your belongings out of your room. Following the instructions provided by our office will help ensure that your check-out goes as smoothly as possible.

You will need to pack and remove all of your belongings when you leave campus. Please thoroughly clean your room, suite, or apartment when you leave.

When you have packed/removed your belongings and cleaned your room, suite, or apartment, please proceed to your Building/Area Desk to check-out and return your key. Please have your Student ID ready to provide to the Desk Receptionist. When you check out, your ID access to the residence hall will be turned off. If you are checking out between 10PM-6AM, return your key using the key dropbox and you will be checked out the following morning.

After you have left, Department of Residence Life representatives may inspect your room for any damages.

Move Out Flow:

With the high volume of students moving out in a short amount of time we will be operating the traffic flow similar to move-in.  For our larger buildings (Mertz, DeNobili, San Francisco, and Campion) we are operating the move-in traffic flow.  See the below move-in maps for guidance on loading your car.  
Note: Please do not park in the loading zone.  If you are arriving to campus to assist a student, please first park in one of our campus parking garages and once you are ready to load, please proceed to your loading zones.

We will consider limited exceptions to allow some students to remain on campus with official approval from Residence Life. If you are unable to leave campus during this time, please complete this form by 12:00pm (Noon) Sunday, March 15. This form will assist us in determining the best way to fully serve students who remain on campus, which will include consolidation.
  • If you are an international student concerned that you would not be allowed to return to Loyola University Chicago due to visa issues. Be sure to consult with the Office of International Programs regarding any visa questions you might have.
  • If you are a student who will have difficulty returning to your home because it is in an area significantly impacted by COVID-19.
  • If you do not have a home, or if going home would be unsafe.
  • If you have an internship or in-person requirement for Graduation for spring 2020
Note: If you are approved to remain you will likely be required to relocate to another building on campus. This allows the university to provide the most efficient services, and keep you and others who remain on campus safe and healthy.

Additional Information

If you are granted permission to remain on campus during this time, be prepared for some limited services and activities throughout Loyola University Chicago.
  • Campus dining will operate limited hours during this time. Dining schedules will be posted as they are available.
  • Loyola will reconcile students' housing and meal plan costs to reflect the shortened on-campus period. More detail about the refund process will be sent to students via e-mail. Right now, our main focus is on student health and welfare.
Think Green and Give
If you have new or gently-used items that you no longer need, please bring them to the designated location in your hall or area to donate. Think Green and Give boxes will be placed in halls on Friday, March 13. Items that may be donated include gently-used clothing, hangers, irons, ironing boards, lamps, unopened nonperishable food, small appliances, small furniture, and unopened toiletries. Please do not place trash or damaged items in these areas.
Can I take advantage of summer storage? 
Students are highly encouraged to utilize this service. Loyola's partner, University and Student Services, will be on campus to distribute boxes from March 16 – March 19 outside of Simpson Hall.  Students will still pay for their storage, but they will pay the same amount they would have paid if they left campus in May. Here are the steps to will follow:
•    Sign up for storage online: www.uandss.com/luc 
•    Once registered, pick up boxes outside of Simpson Hall, 3/16 – 3/19, 10am - 3pm
•    Pack items and follow specific instructions about labeling each item and grouping together, separate from your roommate
•    Take a photo of your items for reference later
•    Leave labeled belongings inside your room to be picked up after you leave
•    Lock the door and follow check out procedures
Will the university assist me in packing or moving?
The university does not have the ability to assist with packing or moving. Storage boxes will be provided to students who are signed up to store belongings with University and Student Services. Students shipping belongings can use the local UPS or Fedex services.
Mail and Packages
Please refer to the University Mailroom for more information about package forwarding. The University Mailroom does not forward packages or mail, so please complete a USPS change of address form. Please be sure to adjust your shipping address on any auto-filled websites you may order from.
