The Water Tower Fitness Studio will be closed during the fall semester. The Halas Recreation Center and the Loyola Center For Fitness at HSC will be open with modified hours of service to provide the Loyola community with safe health and fitness opportunities. Building capacities will be monitored based on public health guidelines; reservations will be recommended. Anyone using the fitness centers is expected to follow Loyola’s Required Personal Safety Practices.

There will be additional sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizing stations placed throughout the centers. Staff will circulate to clean, disinfect, and monitor use. Cardio and strength equipment will be available with spacing for social distancing. Services will be limited in the pool and at the rock wall. Courts will be closed to support academic classes. The sauna, showers, and day lockers will be closed.

Groups exercise classes will be offered with safety restrictions in place; so, too, will intramural and club sports that provide for physical distancing as recommended by national guidelines. Team sports where physical distancing cannot be maintained will be restricted. No guest passes will be available.

Halas, WTC Fitness Studio, and Loyola Center for Fitness Usage Guidelines

The priority of Halas and WTC Fitness Studio is to provide the Loyola community with safe health and fitness opportunities on the Lake Shore and Water Tower campuses. The Health Sciences Campus Fitness Center provides safe health and fitness opportunities to Loyola and Trinity employees, Loyola students, and local community members, as well as medical fitness programming to support the LUMC community.

The following guidelines have been established for the limited use of fitness centers at this time. These guidelines will be updated by teams that are tracking the benchmarks, statistics, daily reports, etc. of local, state, and national authorities and will make the needed adjustments to daily operations and protocols.

Fitness Center Rules

These guidelines apply across faculty, staff, students, disciplines, departments, buildings, etc. Modifications and exceptions should be rare and only approved by an identified group (such as the Management, Policy, and Command section).

Halas guidelines

  • Hours of service will be modified and will include dedicated times for cleaning throughout the day. New hours are:
    • Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (open/close/cleaning hours will be posted)
    • Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (open/close/cleaning hours will be posted)
  • Adjustments will be made to services and available facilities to ensure the safety of all guests, including:
    • Minimum cardio equipment with spacing for social distancing
      - Six to 10 feet apart, with equipment rotation and shut down
    • Minimum strength equipment
      - Six to 10 feet apart, with equipment rotation and shut down
      - Limited free weights and plates with sanitizing system
      - No equipment check out/shared items in space
      - No personal equipment can enter the building
    • Weight room/lower level
      - Limited free weights
      - Use HRC 1 for additional equipment space
      - Synergy room
      --Remain closed (or be repurposed)
      ---Racquetball court
      ---HRC 1 will be used for equipment to assist with social distancing, not fitness spaces
    • Courts will remain closed to support academic classes
    • Rockwall, with limited hours
      • Bouldering wall will remain open
      • Limited top ropes
      • All other ropes open
    • Swimming pool, with lanes restricted according to CDC guidelines (full lanes will not be open)
      • Private lessons only; no group lessons will be held
      • Use of some equipment
    • Cardio/bridge
      • All equipment available spaces must be six to 10 feet apart
      • HRC 2 for GFIT only
      • Core studio will be closed, and spin studio will have limited access
    • Touchless entry-ID self-scan for entry
    • Online point of sale, limited in-person
    • Locker rooms will have restroom use only
      • Signage will be posted with social distancing guidelines
      • The sauna will remain closed; showers will be closed depending on deep cleaning from Millard
      • No towel service or day lockers will be available
    • The following programs will be offered with some restrictions in place to ensure proper social distancing measures can be followed.
      • Groups exercise, with a limited schedule of classes and limited numbers of people in each class, including:
        • Remote group exercise classes (with instructor in-studio)
        • Outdoor group exercise classes
        • Indoor group exercise classes in HRC 2 with proper social distancing and capacity limits
    • Rambler Outdoors
      • Social distancing team building
      • Small group programming with social distancing
      • Equipment rental with sanitation
      • On-campus/quad programming
    • IM Sports
      • E-sports and trivia
      • Small group, in-person sports that provide for physical distancing as recommended by national guidelines (single badminton, cornhole, yard/field games); team sports where physical distancing cannot be maintained are not permitted
    • Sports Club
      • E-sports
      • Sports where distancing can be maintained and CDC/NGB recommendations permit activity in small groups (running, golf, tennis, swimming, table tennis, softball, field hockey, baseball, etc.); team sports where physical distancing cannot be maintained are not permitted

    Building access for Halas

    • Building capacity will be monitored based on the current CDC, State of Illinois, City of Chicago and Red Cross guidelines
    • Reservations will be recommended
    • Face coverings should be worn at all times, including while exercising
    • No guest passes will be available


Loyola Center For Fitness (Power Wellness Management Company) guidelines

  • Hours of service:
    Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
    Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Adjustments will be made to services and available facilities to ensure the safety of all guests, including:
    • Additional sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizing stations throughout the fitness center and increased staff circulation rounds to clean, disinfect, and monitor
    • Cashless point of sale
    • Cardio equipment will be socially distanced, with equipment rotation and shut down
    • Strength equipment will be socially distanced with equipment rotation and floor markings for free weights; no spotting will be allowed
    • The track will be open with social distancing signage
    • The pool will be open with lane restrictions according to CDC guidelines; reservations will be required for lap swimming and only private lessons will be offered
      • Group swim lessons, group exercise, and the co-ed whirlpool will remain closed
    • Basketball and racquetball courts will remain closed
    • The locker room will have socially distanced lockers, with two of every three lockers restricted
      • Showers will be blocked off for social distancing
      • Towel service will continue with increased laundry bin/gondola cleaning
      • No countertop amenities will be available (hair dryer, toiletries, etc.)
      • The whirlpools, steam rooms, and saunas will remain closed
      • The café will remain closed
    • Programming changes are as follows:
      • Personal training will be available
      • Medical Integration programming, group exercise classes, and Next Steps™ will be restricted

    Building Access for the Loyola Center for Fitness

    • Building capacity will be monitored based on the current CDC, State of Illinois, City of Chicago and Red Cross guidelines.
    • Touchless one-way entry by ID, app, or membership card
    • Face coverings should be worn by all (if possible/depending on activity)
    • Employee and member screening will take place prior to check in/clocking in, including screening questions and a temperature check using a forehead scanner to ensure a temperature below 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit
    • No guest passes will be available


Water Tower Fitness Studio

Water Tower Fitness Studio will be closed during the fall 2020 semester. This decision will be reevaluated for the spring 2021 semester based on the current CDC, State of Illinois, City of Chicago, Loyola, and Red Cross guidelines.



Responsibilities

Staff

  • Assist with building ingress/egress
  • Open and close spaces within the building
  • Maintain compliance of guidelines and policies, including social distancing, face coverings, etc.
  • Que and minimize lines
  • Manage check-in desk within building
  • Clean facilities
  • Reset equipment and courts
  • Communicate guidelines and policies to members

Facilities

  • Develop one-way ingress/egress pathways
  • Maintain physical environment such as signage for stairways, elevators, aisles, hallways, etc.

Contractors/vendor (Millard)

  • Wash and sanitize bathrooms, doorknobs, light switches, and other high-touch areas
  • Ensure continual supply of hand-sanitizing dispensers, disinfecting wipes, soap, etc., including portable hand washing stations as necessary
  • Dispose of trash

University Marketing and Communication

  • Communicate through campaigns the guidelines and policies on campus protocol and ease of access

Campus Continuity Section

  • Continually review appropriateness of guiding principles and update documentation and communication as necessary
  • Apprise the Management, Policy, and Command section of new recommendations/decisions, as well as any complications to current planning
