Title/s: Adjunct Professor

Office #: 104

Prof Stefania Galdiero obtained her PhD in Chemistry in the field of peptides at the University of Naples ‘‘Federico II’’ in 1998. She carried out research activities at the Columbia University of New York in 1996-97. In 1999 she earned the position of lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Naples and since 2012 she is Adjunct Professor at Loyola University Chicago. Since 2015 she is Associate Professor of Inorganic Chemistry. She is member of the IBB Institute of the National Research Council. Recent research activities focus on antimicrobial peptides and mechanisms of drug intracellular delivery for cancer. Elucidating the principles that govern the protein/membrane interactions and understanding the molecular forces underlying peptide-peptide interactions within the lipid environment of the cell membrane are major goals. Using a multidisciplinary approach (bioinformatics, peptide design, peptide chemistry, molecular and cell biology, biophysics) she is working on membrane proteins involved in several diseases. She has developed a wide experience both in facing complex scientific projects and in the team working, cooperating with people belonging to different countries. She has a long-term experience in coordinating research projects and contracts with public and private organizations. She is author of more than 100 publications in international scientific journals and of three book chapters. She directed 4 PhD students and 3 post-docs. She is acting as referee for national and international funds agency (MIUR, Estonian Research Council, Leibniz Competition 2018 under the Joint Initiative for Research and Innovation, Swiss National Science Foundation) as well as for numerous journals. She has received several scientific recognitions(ChemViews and NewsRX) and two journal covers (Protein Science 2004, Small 2013).‚Äč
