John Nicholson graduated from the University of Ottawa in Canada where he also taught for two years. With the help of a fellowship from the Canada Council he earned his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Louvain, Belgium. He specialized in the philosophy of history and has also taught courses in aesthetics and art theory. For a number of years he has taught art history at the Rome Center, including courses in Art in Rome, Renaissance Art, and Baroque Art. His main project has been developing a Manual for Art in Rome to serve as a textbook for students enrolled in the Art in Rome sections. In order to achieve this, he recently received a grant from the Weinig Foundation in new York.
