About

Alexander Evers is an ancient historian who holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford. Originally from The Netherlands, where he  lectured at the University of Utrecht, he is at home in Rome and in the Mediterranean in general. Next to his extensive teaching in the areas of Greek and Roman history, he is an active researcher. His first book, Church, Cities, and People: A Study of the Plebs in the Church and Cities of Roman Africa in Late Antiquity, was published in 2010 (Peeters Publishers; Leuven). He has published and lectured widely on matters concerning the Later Roman Empire, and on the Early Church. Currently, his main projects are the excavation of a Roman villa in Sicily, and an international, interdisciplinary project on the so-called Collectio Avellana. He has collaborated on TV documentaries for the BBC, National Geographic, and the History Channel.
