January 2021 Director’s Note

January 14, 2020

Dear JFRC Friends and Colleagues,

I am wanting to share a few personal words with you, along with news that I will be completing my service as director of the JFRC (2017-2021) at the end of the academic year. An announcement from the provost to the LUC community may be found here.

My heart is filled with gratitude to everyone who has afforded me the opportunity to serve and contribute to the Rome Center’s mission, especially our involved and committed alumni leaders. My prayer is that the Rome Center continues to transform students’ lives, their understanding of the complexities of the world in which we live, and of themselves as ethical global citizens, as men and women for others.

Most importantly, I wish to express my deep gratitude to our alumni for their generosity, love, and stewardship of the JFRC. I am convinced that the small seeds we plant and tend today even in the midst of this pandemic will become tomorrow’s opportunities for growth and success. Added to the mix, of course, is the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on our families and friends, our communities, and especially on our children and those who are most vulnerable. The past year has not been easy, yet, we are indeed blessed, knowing that our greatest strength lies in the tenacity of our faith and our community. Together, we continue to build a sustainable and propitious future for the JFRC.

When I step down as director in six months, I do so with a firm and happy heart, knowing that God, who alone sees and knows and loves All, unites us in our work and in our commitment to each other. I cherish the countless conversations I’ve shared with so many alumni and friends of the Rome Center who have been touched by John Felice over the years, even those who never met him. The work we do at the JFRC is holy work. It is mission. It is redemptive and transformative. And you are an important part of that work. I remain grateful beyond words for the opportunity to have served as the JFRC Director 2017-2021 and to be part of John Felice’s continuing legacy.

My thanks for all that you make possible for our students! Thank you for your generosity! Thank you for your prayers and friendship.

Warmest regards,

Dr. Michael F. Andrews
