JFRC Represented at the Saint Nicholas Serata Benefit Dinner
On December 7, JFRC Director Dr. Michael F. Andrews hosted a JFRC table to benefit the Saint Nicholas Serata dinner and auction held by St. Patrick's Church, the American Catholic church of Rome. Proceeds from the event went to support six charities that serve the most needy in Rome, including the Joel Nafuma Refugee Center (which serves the short- and long-term needs of 250 refugees and asylum seekers who are homeless); Fondazione Arché (founded to help women and children who suffer domestic violence); Congregazione delle Suore Carmelitane in Rocca di Papa (supports at-risk families with shelter, food, and medical support); Fondazione Internazionale Don Luigi Di Liegro (community outreach to people with mental health needs at different levels of recovery); and Centro Astalli Refugee Center (an outreach of the Italian Province of the Society of Jesus that serves food and offers legal and other forms of assistance to 300 refugees seeking asylum from war-torn countries). Many students, faculty, staff, and friends of the JFRC volunteer regularly at these centers, offering a visible presence of the Rome Center’s Jesuit-inspired mission to be men and women for others. In attendance at the St. Nicholas Serata were Dr. Andrews and his wife, Monica; JFRC alumnus (1967-68) Tom Clancy and his wife, Dana; JFRC international business professor Francesca Barbarancia and her husband, Andrea; and Rev. Dennis McNeilly, SJ, JFRC Chaplain and Coordinator of the JFRC Wellness Center. A great time was had by all, and the JFRC was well-represented in terms of support for the six San Nicolo Serata charities.
