Announcement: Theft of Unattended Property On the Rise

Loyola Community,

Following up on our note from last week about being smart with your smart phone, we also want to remind every Loyolan that it’s important to never leave laptops or other personal items unattended as well. Reports of theft are on the rise on our campuses and we need your help to lower those numbers.

We know that a number of individuals are frequently leaving laptops and other property unattended in the Information Commons and University libraries while they go to the washroom, get a drink, visit with friends, etc. While it may seem harmless to step away for just a moment, your absence allows a thief just enough time to steal your property.

We encourage you to always secure your personal property when on campus and, as inconvenient as it may be, please be sure that you have a clear view of your belongings at all times. Please also be sure to look out for one another. If you observe suspicious activity anywhere on campus, please notify a staff member or call Campus Safety at 773.508.SAFE immediately.

Sincerely,

Robert Fine
