The Student Organization Awards (SOAs), a part of the Weekend of Excellence, recognize LUC's Registered and Sponsored Student Organizations for the many successful programs and achievements of the past year. View the 2017 Student Organization Award winners here!

These awards are the highest honor at the Student Organization awards. The awards recognize the remarkable accomplishments from a student organization through service to others, membership, activities, and programs. 

The awards in this category include:

  • Best New Organization 
  • Outstanding Program of the Year

Organization Category Awards

New! This awards recognize the achievements of a student organization within a specific category, based on registration. Organizations are asked to demonstrate what makes their group stand out amongst their peers. 

The awards in this category include:

  • Academic/Honorary 
  • Cultural/Ethnic
  • Hobby/Special Interest
  • Media
  • Political/Social Issues
  • Service/Spiritual
  • Social Sororities & Fraternities
  • Sponsored Student Organizations

Individual/Group Awards

These awards recognize the achievements of individuals or a group of students from the student organization community. Individuals may self nominate for this award. 
Recipients are able to showcase how they have gone above and beyond for their organization and the Loyola community. 

The awards in this category include:

  • Outstanding Advisor
  • Outstanding Officer of the Year
  • New! Spirit of Loyola 
  • Outstanding Executive Board

Special Recognition Special Recognition recognizes unique accomplishments of the student organization.  This is a new category of awards featuring three new awards: 
  • Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
  • Sustainability Recognition
  • Imagine the Possibilities

People's Choice

These awards are voted on by the student body. Organizations are grouped together by the size of the organization, as listed on LUCentral. The purpose of this award is to recognize through popular student vote. 

The three groups ares: 

  • Small (1-15 members) 
  • Medium (16-50 members)
  • Large  (51+ members)

Organization of the Year: Presented to a student organization that has excelled in one or more of the following areas: community engagement, social justice, inclusion, and/or collaboration.

Best New Organization: Awarded to a new organization that joined the community between Fall 2016 through Fall 2017. To be eligible, the undergraduate organization must currently be active on campus.

Overall Program of the Year: Recognizes an exceptional program hosted by a Recognized Student Organization that best exemplifies the mission, purpose, and values of the student organization. The program has had a significant impact on the campus community.

Best Academic/Honorary Organization: Presented to an organization that demonstrates how their organization's academic emphasis provides a co-curricular learning beyond the classroom for students to engage with. Click here to nominate your organization. 


Best Cultural/Ethnic Organization: Presented to an organization that demonstrates how their organization's cultural identity helps foster an inclusive environment with an emphasis on increasing understanding, acceptance, and tolerance among the Loyola community; as well as an embrace of their unique identity on through diverse experiences. Best Hobby/Special Interest Organization: Presented to an organization that demonstrates how their organization's focus on building community through positive interaction with their peers in the community, provides value to the Loyola community. Click here to nominate your organization. 


Best Media Organization: Presented to an organization that demonstrates how their publication/production/performances have contributed to the overall student experience, with a focus on building community through positive interaction and creative media. Click here to nominate your organization. 


Best Political/Social Issue Organization: Presented to an organization that demonstrates how their organization continues to strive towards civic engagement and empowers students to be involved in the local, national, and global community. Click here to nominate your organization.


Best Service/Spiritual Organization: Presented to an organization that demonstrates how their organization allows students to engage in interfaith dialogue with an emphasis on increasing understanding, acceptance, and tolerance among the Loyola community; or encourages students to participate in service activities geared towards active citizenship. Best Social Sorority/Fraternity Organization: Presented to an organization that demonstrates how their organization's mission and values align with the Loyola's values. This organization promotes Greek Unity, involvement within the RSO community, and positive experiences for its members. Click here to nominate your organization. 


Best Sponsored Student Organization: Presented to an organization that demonstrates consistent activity, creativity, and initiative; has made meaningful contributions to the campus community; and has had a significant impact on the quality of the student experience here at Loyola throughout the academic year. Awards in this group are open to members from both Registered Student Organizations and Sponsored Student Organizations.  

Individual Awards recognize and higlight the accomplishments of an individual student or staff. | Group Awards recognize the accomplishments of a team of students who hold leadership positions within their organization. Awards can be self nominated. 

Outstanding Advisor: This award will be given to a current Loyola employee who has acted as an advisor for a student organization for at least two consecutive semesters; has strong advising skills while establishing a positive impact on a student organization and the university community; and has demonstrated a dedicated interest in the development of student organization leaders. Outstanding Officer of the Year: awarded a student whose contributions to their individual student organization or the larger RSO community goes above and beyond their role. Their commitment to service, involvement, and academic excellence within the campus community exemplifies their ability to transform future communities and their willingness to work for a better and just world. Spirit of Loyola: Presented to an undergraduate student (member or officer) who embodies integrity, faith, leadership and passion for learning. This person reflects the Jesuit value of Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, To the greater glory of God, in the work they provide for their organization and Loyola community. Outstanding Executive Board: Recognizes the teamwork and accomplishments of a student organization leaders. These students strive for excellence in their work ethic and have navigated the university system with ease. Click here to nominate! 


Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Award: recognizes an organization whose activities and membership, who serve for the greater glory of God. This award celebrates an organization who intentionally embody and celebrate Loyola's Jesuit values, and provide members opportunities to connect to the university. Sustainability Recognition: recognizes a student organization who actively strives to reduce their carbon footprint, through intentional environmental sustainability efforts. Click here to nominate your organization!
