January 22, 2010

CHICAGO, January 22, 2010 - Loyola University Chicago announced today the launch of reimagine, an ambitious, five-phased, five-year project that will touch every facet of student life at the University's Lake Shore Campus. Loyola plans to invest $100 million in the project, which includes a $10 million donor campaign.

"At Loyola, we want to offer our students a better venue for intercollegiate and on-campus activities," says Rev. Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., president, Loyola University Chicago. "We also want to provide the necessary atmosphere for leadership development and social growth. The new spaces we are creating allow us to do these things and do them in an energy-efficient and sustainable way. I am excited, too, that we have a new vice president for student development, Dr. Rob Kelly, who brings vision and energy to see this project through to completion."

The five phases include:
Phase I. Intercollegiate Athletics Center
Ground has already been broken on the first phase of the reimagine campaign. The Intercollegiate Athletics Center, a three-story, state-of-the-art athletics facility, will offer a number of improved services for student-athletes.

Phase II. Joseph J. Gentile Center Renovation
Phase two will begin in summer 2011. Renovations will transform the Ramblers' home court into a true sports arenaa place to ignite the spirit of athletic competition.

Phase III. A New Student Union
The third phase of Loyola's campus redevelopment includes a 70,000-square-foot complex that will house the offices for Student Activities and Greek Affairs, the Phoenix student newspaper, Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, Student Leadership, USGA, Student Ministry, and more.

Phase IV. Halas Sports Center Renewal
The fourth phase of Loyola's project to improve student life will keep what works at the existing Halas Sports Center while adding significant facilities to help keep our students fit and healthy. The 20,000-square-foot renovation is to be completed by 2014.

Phase V. Centennial Forum Transformation
Phase five, the capstone of our campaign to transform student life at Loyola, is a reimagined Centennial Forumto be completed by 2015. With space for large-scale conferences and serving as a new face for Loyola on Sheridan Road, the transformation of Centennial Forum will complete Loyola's campus revolution and usher in a new era of community and connectivity for Loyola's students.

The University is set to unveil the new reimagine campaign to students, alumni, faculty, and staff at a pep rally on Saturday, January 23, in Loyola's historic Alumni Gym, at 2 p.m., prior to the men's basketball game that will start at 3 p.m. against Horizon League foe Valparaiso.
