Student Government of Loyola Chicago

Press Release: On behalf of the Spring Elections Committee

March 14, 2020

Hello all,

Thank you so much for your expressed interest in the Student Government of Loyola Chicago.

Due to the university wide policy of suspending all face-to-face interactions due to COVID-19, we at the Spring Elections Committee have made a few changes as to how we will proceed with the election process for the 2020-2021 school year.

First and foremost, candidate meetings will now be completed remotely via Zoom*! We will now do candidate meetings per request. Please fill out the Google Form below if you would like to schedule an appointment. For those who have already completed a candidate meeting, you have already fulfilled this requirement. Secondly, there is another component of the application that was excluded in the document on the website and that is the Statement of Candidacy. Please be sure to fill this out, it is on the last page of the new packet on the SGLC website. LINK- www.luc.edu/sglc/joinsglc

Thirdly, the 50 signature requirement is henceforth suspended; any potential candidate will not need to obtain 50 signatures due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Lastly, given that the debates will no longer be in person events, please note that we will still be holding debates via Zoom. The times and dates of the debates currently set in the packet will stand, but remotely. Please see the SGLC website for links to that virtual event.

Attached you will find a new elections packet with all of the updated information. Also, we will be extending the due date of the application by one week to officially be due Saturday, March 21 at 11:59pm CST via email to SGLCElections@luc.edu. We hope that this gives all of you ample time to adjust to this new schedule.

Please contact the elections email if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this sudden shift in this years election cycle, we are always here to help.

Thank you all for your time, stay healthy, and we hope to see you all actively engaged in SGLC when we return from our remotely run meetings in the Fall.

*Zoom is a video conferencing platform that Loyola provides to all students as a means to facilitate virtual conversation and discussion. Please visit the link below for more information. https://www.luc.edu/its/itrs/teachingwithtechnology/zoom/
