Sister Jean’s 101st birthday

Friday, August 21

Below are a few ways you can virtually participate in the birthday festivities on social media and on the special day itself. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with you virtually!

August 14, 2020 • 101 Reasons We Love Sister Jean

We all know there are a million reasons to love Sister Jean. Can you narrow it down to just one? Let us know ONE reason why you love Sister Jean, and you might be featured on our social media page, and in a special picture book that will be given to Sister Jean on her birthday! Fill out our form here so that we can get your responses. Responses will be due by Friday, August 14, 2020, at 5 p.m.

August 21, 2020 • Virtual Birthday Party, 11 a.m. CDT

Since we can't celebrate with Sister Jean in person, we'll be celebrating virtually! Join us at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020 where we'll hear birthday wishes from students, staff, alumni, and more. Sister Jean will also address attendees at this event. Register

August 21, 2020 • Cake and Ice Cream

For Sister Jean, no birthday is complete without cake and ice cream. Why should this year be any different? Join the Loyola community virtually on Friday, August 21. Cut yourself a slice of cake and scoop yourself a generous helping of ice cream in the comfort of your own home! Snap a picture, and tag @Loyola_Alumni on Instagram and Loyola University Chicago Alumni on Facebook! Make sure to use the #SisterJean101 hashtag so everyone else can see too! We'll be sharing your festivities with the Loyola community on social media.

August 26, 2020 • Mass of Gratitude, 12 p.m. CDT

On Wednesday, August 26 at Noon, Loyola University will celebrate a Mass of Gratitude for Sr. Jean Dolores Schmidt, B.V.M. on the occasion of her 101st birthday. The Mass will be live streamed from Madonna della Strada Chapel, and may be viewed on Facebook Live. With COVID 19 restrictions, up to 25 people may attend the Mass in person, and advance registration is required.

Support Worship, Work, Win

In 2019, Ramblers from far and wide joined together to make Sister Jean's birthday wish come true and endowed the Worship, Work, Win fund for athletic excellence and student athlete welfare. As one of the many ways to celebrate Sister's 101st birthday, Rambler fans and friends who wish to make a gift in her honor can support Worship, Work, Win, ensuring our student athletes have everything they need to be successful in and out of competition.

LUMA Slideshow

Visit Loyola University Museum of Art’s website to see 101 birthday wishes and messages for Sister Jean! Hundreds of post-it notes were collected from the opening of the Sister Jean Gallery last year at LUMA and we’ve got one for every year. A special photo of Sister Jean is at the very end!
