About

An Adjunct Professor since 2018, Alyssa Burns teaches Public Relations Writing, Principles of Public Relations, Principles of Advertising, Ethics & Communication, and Business & Professional Speaking classes. Alyssa is passionate about sharing her real-world business knowledge, and her goal is to inspire her students to think critically and problem solve, while providing them knowledge to move forward.

As an accomplished communications, marketing and public relations professional, Alyssa honed her skills at Kraft Foods and Edelman Worldwide.  An excellent communicator with strong speaking, writing, research and analytical skills, she is the President of Alyssa Burns Communications, and works with professional service firms and technology clients.  Alyssa helps entrepreneurs and organizations navigate change, nurture leadership skills, and elevate their communication and engagement.

She is Past President of the Professional Women’s Club of Chicago and led the organization's Mentorship Program for five years.  Alyssa is sought out as a public speaker on topics such as “Making Connections That Matter,” “Using Emotional Intelligence to Strengthen Leadership,” and “Expect the Unexpected: Being Prepared for a Crisis.”

Alyssa is a graduate of the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) although is just as passionate about the Ramblers.

She greatly enjoys exploring the world and calls herself a “travel adventurer.”  Her favorite quote is by Saint Augustine: "The world is a book. Those who do not travel read only a page.”
