About

Doretha Tyler-Gant joined the School of Communication as administrative assistant in July 2008.‌ She was previously an administrative assistant for the Department of Criminal Justice, as well as supporting staff to the College of Arts and Sciences Water Tower Campus Dean’s Office, the Director of African Studies and the African Diaspora and the Journalism Program Director.

Tyler-Gant first joined the Loyola staff in 1990 as a coordinator in Faculty Administration. In that capacity, she worked closely with the Associate Vice President for Faculty Administration to assist the Senior Vice President of Faculty Affairs. In 2001 Doretha left Loyola and volunteered at Higgins Community Academy, where her daughter Diamond had just started kindergarten. In 2002 she became manager of office operations, payroll and bookkeeping at Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E.) Organization. She returned to Loyola to join the Department of Criminal Justice in 2004.

A member of a large family and strong community, she enjoys her role as a coordinator for a mentoring committee at Lillydale First Baptist Church and continues to be involved in activities at her daughter’s performing arts charter school. Most recently she and Diamond attended a mother and daughter band camp supported through the school’s affiliation with the Salvation Army.
