Patricia K. Felkins, PhD, is an associate professor in Public Relations and Organizational Communication and the founding Director of the Advertising and Public Relations program in the School of Communication. She is also the co-founder and vice president of the Africa Circle of Hope Foundation. As a consultant she has worked with a variety of organizations including financial, health care, service, manufacturing, and education. Her major areas of teaching and research are in nonprofit and organizational communication, public relations, and community narratives.

Over the past eight years Dr. Felkins has had an increasing global focus, especially in East Africa, where she has collaborated with community groups, schools and universities to develop technology, entrepreneurship, education, and community development programs. She is also Vice President and Co-Founder of the Africa Circle of Hope Foundation, which supports development projects for women and children impacted by AIDS and poverty in East Africa. www.africacircleofhope.org. Cultural narratives in the poems of youth and access to education for children orphaned by AIDS are some of her current projects. Dr. Felkins continues to work with faculty at Catholic University of Eastern Africa and the Centre for Social Justice and Ethics to develop communication and media programs and educational scholarships. She is currently co-chair of the committee planning an interactive conference “Promoting Justice and Peace: University/Community Collaborative Initiatives” in Nairobi June 18-21, 2013, sponsored by Loyola University Chicago and Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
