Internships

SOC Internships: Everything You Need To Know

Internships are a vital part of our curriculum at the School of Communication. Students in certain majors, like journalism, advertising, public relations and film, must complete an internship to graduate.

Students in other areas usually complete an internship for credit too.

After all, one of the best reasons to attend college in Chicago is the plethora of internship opportunities at world-famous news organizations, ad agencies, public relations companies, film companies and more.

60% of internships turn into a job offer.

Don’t wait to look for internships. Start today.

Here are the steps to complete an internship:

  • Attend an Internship Orientation via Zoom—details and links are emailed to SoC students in advance of all sessions. You must attend one session in order to receive the Internship Packet. Internship Orientation Dates can be found here.
  • Begin your Internship search using LUC and SoC resources such as soccareers.com, Handshake, and any external sites of your choosing
  • Secure an Internship
  • Complete the Internship Packet, provided to you at the Internship Orientation
  • Submit the Internship Packet for Approval to the appropriate internship instructor
  • Once approved, the SoC Dean’s Office enrolls you in the class-you cannot enroll yourself via LOCUS

Additional questions about the approval process can be directed to your respective internship coordinator:

  • Advertising and public relations students should contact Dr. Pamela Morris, pmorris1@luc.edu
  • Journalism majors should contact Professor Patty Lamberti, plamberti@luc.edu
  • Communication majors and Film and Digital Media students should contact Professor Ayesha Abouelazm, aabouelazm@luc.edu
