Responsible Innovation and Critical Design
Featuring Marcel O’Gorman, Director of the Critical Media Lab and University Research Chair at the University of Waterloo
When: Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 12:30 PM
Where: Loyola University Chicago, School of Communication, Rm 013
Sponsored by: The Center for Digital Ethics and Policy and The SIMLab
About:
This talk will highlight key issues in responsible innovation, from the mining of conflict minerals to bias in facial recognition systems. Knowing that these problems are rooted in broader systemic social issues, O’Gorman looks at what it might take to promote real and lasting change in the tech ecosystem.
His work involves a focus on critical design methods as a way of infusing reflection and critical thinking into the process of innovation. Participants will leave this interactive talk with tools to inform their own ways of thinking about and developing new technologies.
Includes a light lunch catered by Flacos Tacos.
