The School of Social Work prepares students in a number of ways to enter the job market, including sponsoring events and programs to assist in the job search and career center workshops.
Every March, the Networking and Career Fair offers social work graduates the opportunity to expand networking skills, develop contacts, and get a sense of present and future opportunities in the field. Generally there are 40–60 agencies and organizations that attend. Many students make professional contacts and some find positions at the Networking and Career Fair. For most students, these events are the building blocks to learning about the market, presenting oneself to future employers and locating positions.
Students are strongly encouraged to register with the Career Development Center where resumes and jobs are posted online in Ramberlink. Position openings that are sent to the School of Social Work are sent to the Career Development Center for posting online. Students who are seeking positions in School Social Work are encouraged to check with the Career Center for educational job fairs where most school social work positions are listed. The Career Development Center is also a resource for continued assistance in resume writing and interview skills.
If you need help editing your resume, the Career Development Center has walk-in hours. Walk-in hours at the Lake Shore campus are Monday-Friday from 2-4 pm in the Sullivan Center, Suite 255; walk-in hours at the Water Tower Campus are Wednesdays from 2-5 pm at Corboy Law Center, Suite 800. To get to the Career Development Center at Water Tower Campus, take the main elevators up to the 6th floor, go through the library to use the library elevator located on the right, and take that elevator up to the 8th floor. Please check in at the front desk upon arrival.
