Below you will find a New Student Checklist that contains the next steps you want to take as you make plans to join us this semester. Please review each item carefully and respond accordingly.

1. APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID.
If you plan to use federal aid to help subsidize your graduate education, be sure to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov. As a graduate student, you are only eligible for student loans through the FAFSA. More information regarding scholarship opportunities can be explored on our Scholarship Opportunities Webpage.
2. APPLY FOR FIELDWORK.
Once you received via email your Loyola Universal ID and set up your student password, you can begin the application process to secure a fieldwork internship. Please review the Field Work Webpage for more information regarding the application process.
3. COMPLETE ONLINE NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION.
Upon your admissions to the program, you will be given access to an online new student orientation site. Prior to starting your first term with us, you are required to complete the orientation in its entirety. You will be sent an email once orientation is ready and available for you to review.
4. REGISTER FOR CLASSES*
The courses you will enroll in vary based on the program you have been admitted to and the term you are starting. 5. SUBMIT IMMUNIZATION RECORDS.
Before the semester begins, it is imperative that you submit a copy of your shot records to the University’s Wellness Center. Failure to do so will result in a registration block on your account and a non-compliance fee of $50. Steps for submitting immunization can be found on the Wellness Center’s Immunizations Webpage.
6. PREPARE FOR THE START OF THE SEMESTER.
As the start of the semester approaches, be sure to regularly check your Loyola Outlook E-mail, Sakai, and LOCUS for course syllabi, textbook information, financial aid/tuition updates, and other correspondence from the school and university staff. Also make sure you visit the university’s Campus Card Office to obtain your student ID card. Details on the office’s location and hours can be found on the Campus Card’s Contact Us Webpage. Last, review the School of Social Work’s Academic Calendar, as it contains program and university-related dates that will be applicable to you as a graduate student.
*TRANSFER CREDIT
If you have taken any prior graduate level courses that you would like applied to your MSW program, a transfer credit request must be submitted. Please review the Transfer Credit Webpage for details regarding the type of courses that are accepted for transfer credit and the process for submitting a request.
