Student Organization

The School of Social Work Student Organization (SSWSO) is an organization developed to enhance each student's educational experience while pursuing their social work degree. The organization exists to serve the students' needs as they evolve and change.

SSWSO organizes social events, community service opportunities, and social justice discussions for classmates to get to know each other, as well as School of Social Work faculty and staff, outside of the classroom. Through participation with SSWSO, students will encounter professional networking prospects, service opportunities within the Chicago community, social occasions, and opportunities to attend certain faculty meetings.

All SSWSO activities are open to current School of Social Work undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, as well as alumni. Being a School of Social Work student means you are a SSWSO member!

You already have a voice in SSWSO, but if you want to get more involved, here are some of the ways you can do so:

  • Attend SSWSO events
  • Join a committee: Student Development & Cohesion; Social Justice; Educational Advocacy
  • Become a Curriculum or Fieldwork committee chair, and attend monthly faculty meetings and be an advocate for SSW students
  • Become a SSWSO Board Member
