What is your favorite thing about working at Loyola? My favorite thing has been seeing how much has stayed the same at Loyola and how much has changed. I earned my bachelor’s degree at Loyola and then worked elsewhere for 15 years before joining Loyola’s staff. When I returned to the University, I found, for example, that many administrators who I knew of as an undergraduate student were still at Loyola, and yet campus had completely changed. When I was a student, there wasn’t one quad, much less two.
What is your most memorable achievement as a Loyola employee? In my first four months on the job, the Quinlan School of Business moved into the Schreiber Center, welcomed a new dean, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Loyola community, facilitated a WGN Radio live broadcast from the Schreiber lobby, and hosted an elegant gala featuring General Colin Powell. It was very exciting—and tiring!—to work on communications for all of these major milestones in rapid succession. I was thrilled to be part of the multi-office team that pulled all of this off.
What does Loyola's mission mean to you? Loyola’s combination of learning, service to humanity, and faith speaks to my personal values and inspires me to look beyond myself and toward the greater good.
What motivates you to succeed each and every day? Through my communications work, I want to ensure that people know about all the great things that Loyola, its faculty, staff, and students do. Plus, I truly believe in the power of education and the unique role that Catholic institutions have historically played and still play in higher education.
Tell us how you show your Rambler pride. All my Loyola gear—from shirts to a maroon and gold scarf—are ready for any Loyola event or milestone.
Tell us something most people at Loyola would be surprised to know about you.I was very involved as an undergraduate, including writing for The Phoenix, helping with freshman move-in, and serving as president of the Rambler Apartment Association, which was the apartment hall government at the time. That year, RAA was named Loyola’s Organization of the Year; I still have the plaque somewhere in my basement.
