Course Description
This course will examine the interrelationship among crime, the media, the criminal justice system, and other forms of popular culture. Topics include media representations of crime and criminal justice, social media, and the social construction of myths about crime and the criminal justice system. Outcomes: Students will be able to (1) know the meaning of the social construction of deviance; (2) know and be critical of the manner in which crime and criminal justice are portrayed in the media, and their effect on public opinions and images of the latter; and (3) analyze and evaluate the effects of popular culture.Criminal Justice & Criminology (CJC): Loyola University Chicago (luc.edu)
