Gregory Palmer, PhD

About

Originally from Michigan, Palmer received his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Austin where he studied how the nutrients available to pathogenic bacteria affect their ability to cause infections. His interests shifted to environmental microbiology when he began teaching after his graduate work, and he has supervised over 200 undergraduate research projects in this area. Palmer is passionate about utilizing active and experiential learning approaches to engage students in the classroom and research lab. He has taught lecture and lab courses to undergraduates and medical students, and he is an active volunteer with the national middle and high school STEM competition Science Olympiad. In his spare time, he enjoys singing and supporting Michigan and Detroit sports teams.
