All students will be required to obtain a visa* in order to study at the Vietnam Center. Visa application fees typically cost about $175 USD and are not included in your program costs. You will receive detailed application instructions for this process via your LUC email.
This year we will be offering a batch visa process for any Loyola Chicago students that are arriving to Vietnam on a U.S. Passport at the start of the progrqam, meaning that we will submit materials on your behalf to obtain your Vietnamese visa before you leave. The benefit of this process is that you will not need to apply for your visa on your own or pay any shipping costs, as we will cover those. You will simply need to pay the cost of the visa which is around $170 USD. Participating in the batch submission will also save you time going through immigration when you arrive in Vietnam.
If you would like to participate in the batch submission, please make sure you have your passport with you on campus for the fall semester. You will need to surrender your passport to our office so we can get the visa sticker placed in there. Passports are due on November 21st, 2019 for spring semester students.
Students that hold a US passport and are unable to partipate in the batch submission can obtain the visa prior to departure through the Vietnamese Embassy in Washington, D.C. Students are responsible for obtaining this visa on their own time and will need to cover all costs. We will provide you with the invitation letter needed for the application via email and it will take about 2 weeks for the embassy to process your application. The invitation letter is necessary to have your application reviewed, so please do not apply until we have given you that information.
If a student with a US passport is unable to apply for their visa prior to departure, they can obtain their visa on arrival. We will provide students with instructions for this through a tourist agency via email but it is up to them to complete the process. Students will be charged $35 for the necessary letter and $170 for the visa. Please let us know if you plan on securing your visa in this manner.
If you are arriving before the start date, you will be responsible for securing your own visa. We are not responsible for any issues that arise from not having a visa from the embassy before coming to Vietnam
*If you hold a non-US passport, you will need to do your own research on your visa requirements. Different countries have different requirements. Email Vietnam@LUC.edu, if you have any questions.
