Wellness Program Catalog

Make programming easy for your residents, your class, members of your student organization or just a group of friends—request a wellness program! Wellness programs are led by professional Wellness Center staff and/or Wellness Advocates, Loyola's Peer Health Educators.

Get a great turnout—consider requesting a program for your entire hall.  We will work with you to put on a program that can include food, games, massage, and other activities.

To request a program, email Natasha Mmeje or check out the Wellness Advocates and fill out a form.

We ask for two weeks notice to best accommodate your request. If less than two weeks is given and we feel we can not accommodate your request we may decline, but will work to reschedule.

Wellness Programs

Alcohol 101

A program that helps your residents recognize misperceptions about alcohol use at Loyola in a fun way. Participants will learn the ways to reduce harm if they decide to drink and how to stay alcohol-free if they choose. They will also learn how to recognize the signs of alcohol overdose and how to help a friend.

Time Needed: 1 hour

Pathways of Survivors:

This exercise is designed to allow participants to experience the issues and emotions college-age survivors of gender-based violence face each day. Participants read a survivor's story and learn about all the different systems that they need to navigate in order to get the support and resources they might need. This exercise leaves participants with a better understanding of the true complexity of gender-based violence and the lasting impact it has on the survivor and their loved ones.

Time Needed: 1 hour – 1½  hours

Nutrition Workshop

Residents will get information on healthy eating, the food guide pyramid, food labels, and portion size. Participants will engage in an interactive discussion, using real-life examples as tools. Depending on the needs of your floor(s), one of the following topics can be added to the discussion:

  • Weight Management (weight gain in college, moderation, fad diets)
  • Breakfast & Snacks (Importance of breakfast, healthy snacks, water and other beverages)
  • Dining On & Off Campus (healthier dining hall choices, restaurants close to campus)

Time Needed: 1 hour

Sex in A Fishbowl

A fun, confidential way to have questions answered about sexual health, relationships, STIs, sexuality, and everything in between. Led by a nurse or health educator, get expert answers in a relaxed environment!

Residents who attend this program will be able to:

  • Discuss questions and answers about sexual health, sexuality, and STIs
  • Summarize health information about sexual health, sexuality and STIs
  • Name on-campus resources for receiving health information and health services related to sexual health, sexuality, and STIs

Time needed: 1 hour

Myths & Facts: Sexual Health

In this interactive game, teams of participants will decide what is myth or fact.  If you are interested in having your residents learn a lot about sexual health in an energetic way, this program is for you!

Residents who attend this program will be able to:

  • Differentiate between risky and less risky sexual activity
  • Explain what makes a sexual activity risky and less risky
  • Name on-campus resources for receiving health information and health services related to sexual health and STIs

Time needed: 1 hour

Please note - we provide bystander education to all of our first year students through a program called Speak Up, Step In. In an effort continue messaging around being an active bystander and to have everyone involved in creating a safer campus community, many of our wellness programs include active bystander tips and information. If you're looking for a program dedicated to bystander education only, please let us know on your form/email and we will work with you to create a program. Thanks!



If you are interested in an easy program, why not host a film viewing with a meal and discussion? The Wellness Center owns all of the documentaries below. Most films come with a resource guide and/or guided questions for a group. Let us know if you would like us to also come and lead discussion.

Miss Representation (2011)

The film explores how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in influential positions in America and challenges the media's limiting and often disparaging portrayals of women, which make it difficult for the average girls to see herself as powerful. Many actors, activists, and politicians are featured.

The Invisible War (2012)

A groundbreaking investigative documentary about one of our country's most shameful and best kept secrets: the epidemic of rape within the US military. Today, a female soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan is more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed in enemy fire, with the number of assaults in the last decade in the hundreds of thousands.  The film reveals the systemic cover up of the crimes against several young women and follows their struggles to rebuild their lives and fight for justice.

Spin the Bottle: Sex, Lies, & Alcohol (2004)

This film offers an indispensable critique of the role that popular culture plays in glamorizing excessive drinking and high-risk behaviors. By exploring the college party scenes via award-winning media critics Jackson Katz and Jean Kilbourne, Spin the Bottle shows the difficulties students have in navigating a cultural environment saturated with messages about gender and alcohol.

Pandemic: Facing AIDS (2002)

Beyond the numbers and statistics of the AIDS epidemic lie the personal stories of millions of people, and in this highly-acclaimed film, the film-maker offers an intimate perspective on the unique challenges of living with the disease.  Narrated by Danny Glover.

The Weight of the Nation (2012)

The films explore the factors that drive obesity in our bodies and in our communities. They look at its effects on adults, children, and our nation.  They also examine how people become obese. The four centerpiece films of the campaign—Consequences, Choices, Children in Crisis, and Challenges—and the ten Bonus Shorts that accompany them in this kit all approach the epidemic from a wide variety of angles. There is a separate discussion guide for each film.

Food, Inc. (2009)

Food, Inc. lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing how our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. Food, Inc. reveals surprising and often shocking truths about what we eat, how it's produced and who we have become as a nation.

Run-Time: 91 minutes

The Use of Technology to Stalk (2011)

Stalkers often use technology—such as GPS, computer spyware, and cell phones—to track their victims and evade the police. In this award-winning, 15-minute video designed to train law enforcement and educate communities, a stalking victim tells her story and experts describe how to work with victims of stalking. The video and discussion guide focus on stalking prevalence, technologies used by stalkers, communities’ approaches to the crime, and obstacles to addressing technology-assisted stalking.

Soul Food Junkies (2013)

Through candid interviews with soul food cooks, historians, and scholars, as well as doctors, family members, and everyday people, Soul Food Junkies blends history, humor, and heartwarming stories to place this culinary tradition under the microscope. Both the consequences and the benefits of soul food are carefully addressed. So too is the issue of low access to quality food in black communities, which makes it difficult for some black people to eat healthy. In the end, Hurt determines whether or not black people are addicted to this food tradition that has its origins in West Africa and the black south, yet is loved all over the world.
