Gynecologic Exam

What happens in a gynecologic exam?

Gynecologic exams are available and may include a PAP smear (starting age 21), pelvic exam, chlamydia and gonorrhea screening, and a breast exam.  The PAP smear screens for pre-cancerous changes of the cervix and cervical cancer.  The pelvic exam checks for abnormalities of the uterus and ovaries.  HIV, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea screening are recommended annually for all women under the age of 25.  Women will be taught how to perform a monthly self-breast exam for regular self-screening.
