Emma Horst

Emma Horst is a Ph.D. student at Loyola University Chicago, studying nineteenth-century British literature. Her research interests include the political-aesthetic theory of Jacques Rancière, Pre-Raphaelite art, the sensation fiction of Mary Elizabeth Braddon, as well as Aestheticism and cosmetics in Victorian literature and culture. After graduating from Loras College in 2016, Emma taught high school English in Iowa for three years, then moved to Chicago in 2019 to attend Loyola. Emma has previously worked in the Writing Center as a Graduate Tutor, taught UCWR 110, and is excited to be acting as the Associate Director for the 2021-2022 academic year.

When Emma isn’t working for the Writing Center, she enjoys running, talking on the phone with one of her five sisters, Facetiming her nieces and nephew, and drinking wine with friends after a busy week.

Specialties: MLA documentation, pre-writing exercises, thesis development, literary analysis, essay organization and coherence.
